BISD Esports Fall Invitational & TexSEF State Qualifier - November 1, 2025
Esports (electronic sports) are organized, competitive video gaming events. Players (either individuals or teams) compete in popular titles such as Fortnite, Rocket League, League of Legends, Valorant, and Super Smash Bros.
Unlike casual gaming, esports are structured with:
Rules & formats (brackets, rounds, time limits)
Spectators (in-person or streamed online)
Prizes (scholarships, trophies, recognition)
Team organizations (like school teams or professional franchises)
The industry is huge: over 500 million global viewers and billions in revenue, making it comparable to traditional sports in popularity.
Teamwork & Communication – similar to traditional sports.
Strategic Thinking – games require tactics, planning, and adaptation.
Technology Skills – broadcasting, streaming, networking, AV production.
Social Inclusion – provides opportunities for students who may not join traditional athletics.
College Scholarships – hundreds of colleges now offer esports scholarships.
